Welcome!

I’m a Ph.D. candidate in Education Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, with a B.S. in Chemistry from MIT. I am completing a dual A.M. in Statistics and Data Science from the Wharton School.

I study policies that support families in economic hardship. Drawing on quantitative methods, I analyze cross-sector administrative data that link social service systems and education. I examine patterns and disparities in access, and how access to broader systems of support connects to human capital development and economic mobility. I also conduct economic evaluations of these policies to measure the costs and consequences of these supports.

In my dissertation work, I examine the relationship between SNAP take-up and the concentration of community resources (i.e., preschools, schools, and churches) in North Carolina. Using marginal structural models with inverse probability of treatment weighting, I leverage dynamic shifts in resources as counties gain or lose institutions each year. I find that counties with greater resources per child are associated with higher take-up. These higher per-capita counties are smaller with less aggregate resources overall and higher concentrations of poverty. This evidence highlights the importance of community resources, specifically in areas where there is less access to opportunity and resources. Ensuring that families are connected to these institutions and that agencies partner with them may be a pathway to improve access and promote child welfare.

I am on the 2026 - 2027 job market.

Research

Economic hardship remains strongly linked with disparities in human capital development and economic mobility. My research examines how educational institutions and broader systems of support can shield children from the adverse effects of childhood poverty. My graduate training has given me a strong command of quasi-experimental and advanced quantitative methods central to rigorous policy evaluations. I examine the effects of these policies and interventions and how they can efficiently identify, support, and connect families to the resources they need to thrive to improve both access and impact.

These large investments require political will and sustained investment, so I also examine the economic consequences of investments and the cost of interventions to provide policymakers with comprehensive and rigorous evidence of educational and social policy investments.

As a predoctoral fellow with the Institute of Education Sciences, I completed research placements with the Urban Institute and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
